The WF50 will be on 28/29 April 2012

52 miles with over 8,700 feet of ascent. A testing but picturesque challenge walk in the beautiful & historic Forest of Dean and Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

This is a Triennial event which is one of the three South West Triple Challenge events.

The 2012 WyeForest 50  entry limit has now been reached and entries are CLOSED.

There is no reserve list & no entries on the day.

If you have entered

Postal entrants who supplied an SAE will have been acknowledged & those with an email address will have received an acknowledgement by email.

All who have entered via SPORTident should have received an automatic acknowledgement from Si. If you have not please check your junk email folder or check the list below before contacting the organiser.

The marshals walk is on the weekend of 31st March/1st April so failing major problems

entrants should receive their number & final details by the 7th April.

The route description will then be available to download from this web site.

 Event information

Participants must carry OS map (Landranger 162 or Explorer OL14), route description & tally card, compass, torch  with spare bulb & batteries, whistle, mug,  waterproofs & extra warm night clothing. Entrants will be asked to sign that they are carrying this equipment at the start. Marshals  en-route may ask to see items on this list

Entrants must register at the start between 8.45am & 10.00am (depending on start time) to receive their tally and details of any route changes.  The route description will show checkpoint opening & closing times. Fast walkers and runners should start at a time to suit checkpoint opening times. Those arriving early at check points will have to wait until the opening time to be clipped. Entrants must leave each checkpoint before the closing time. Anyone arriving after the closing time must retire.  

Entrants may start between 9.30 & 10.30am. The route must be completed by 9.30am on Sunday and participants must pass through each checkpoint in the correct order.  Entrants must ensure that they are recorded and have their tally punched at each of those checkpoints. Entrants must adhere to the published route description, subject to any late amendments.  

Retiring entrants should hand in their tally at a checkpoint and transportation back to the finish will be arranged as soon as possible. In an emergency - if retiring entrants cannot reach a checkpoint - they should pass their tally to another entrant to hand in at the next checkpoint with details of their location. Under no circumstances retire without telling the organisers!  

The checkpoint marshal may retire anyone showing signs of undue stress or who has broken the rules.  

Dogs are not allowed in the School buildings or Leisure Centre. Do not exercise dogs in the car park or grounds, please leave them in the car. No dogs in Check Point halls. Dogs must be kept under control to prevent impeding other walkers and must be under strict control when likely to be near farm animals.  

In all matters the decision of the organisers is final.

    There will be several checkpoints on the route, all will supply refreshments. Hot meal at mid-way.  All entrants are advised to carry snacks/drink of their own choice to supplement these provisions. NB: YOU MUST BRING A MUG (no cups provided)

Underfoot conditions can vary considerably along the route. It can be wet and cold in April, especially at night when you can become chilled as the pace slows. Entrants should wear sensible footwear and carry waterproof/windproof clothing and extra survival kit. The equipment required in paragraph one is the absolute minimum.

During the hours of darkness participants should show regard and be quiet when near to houses. Some properties are very remote and you could cause alarm to the residents.

There will be showers, hot drinks and a hot meal at the finish. Entrants can rest / sleep in the school hall after the event.  However, we must vacate the premises by 11.00am.

    All successful finishers will receive a certificate. Badges on sale at the finish.

     Baggage may be left, at the owners risk, at the start venue

Accommodation before the event is the responsibility of the entrant. There are two Youth Hostels within 12 miles and a number of Guest Houses, B&Bs and campsites. Enquiries about accommodation should be sent to the Tourist Information Centre, High Street, Coleford, Gloucestershire GL16 8HG

Note that the Wild Goose Lodge shown on the LDWA website as within 10km is in fact on the other side of the river Severn and involves a road journey of about 35 miles.
